Q: What are the requirements to enter the league?
A: In order to be a team/club in the BWA you must do the following:
Submit written request to a Sectional Director and submitted at the either the Spring or Fall annual meetings
Become a club chartered team of USA Wrestling (current membership is $95/year)
All participating athletes must have a USA Wrestling card (current membership is $15/year)
All participating coaches must have a USA Wrestling card (current membership is $65/year)
Q: What are the eligibility requirements for the post season tournaments?
A: Tournament eligibility is as follows:
Each wrestler must weigh in and compete at their Sectional weight (or lower) at least three (3) times during the regular season to compete in the Sectional tournament.
Each wrestler must have made scratch weight at his entered weight class (or lower) at least one (1) time and will not receive growth allowance until done so.
On December 25th each wrestler will be allowed a 1 lb growth allowance. (56 is 57, etc)
At Sectional Tournament each wrestler each wrestler will be allowed a 1 lb growth allowance. (56 is 58, etc)
At District and BWA Championship Tournament weights are the same as sectionals. (56 is 58, etc).
Q: What is required of coaches in the BWA?
A: Coaches eligibility is as follows:
All coaches must have an active USA Wrestling Coaches Card.
Cards must be made available upon request.
All teams must have at least one person with a certified CPR card.
All coaches must have passed State Required Concussion training.
All coaches must complete the requirements of the Ohio law titled the Lindsay law.
Q: What rule modifications does the BWA have?
A: BWA adheres to NFHS & OHSAA Rules with the following modifications:
Headgear is mandatory, Modifications such as crossed straps and tape are permitted.
Uniforms are optional. -- No loose clothing. If a team uniform is supplied, it must be worn
Wrestling shoes are optional but the wrestler must at least have gym shoes without metal eyelets.
Varsity matches (or as designated) periods will be 1:30-1:30-1:30. For other matches, all time periods are 1-1 minutes.
Middle school Federation rules apply for overtime
A tech fall will be a 12-point differential.
Weight Classes: 49, 52, 56, 60, 64, 67, 70, 73, 76, 79, 82, 86, 90, 95, 100, 105, 110, 120, 132, 150, 175. (21 weight classes)
No varsity wrestler may participate under 44 pounds.
A wrestler will be permitted to wrestle “up” two (2) weight classes from which they weigh-in at.
Wrestlers will be given 15 minutes recovery time between matches.
there will be no limit to the number of matches a wrestler can wrestle on one day
Q: Is there a way to register for USA cards in mass?
A: All the club's head coach will need...
For wrestlers who have never had a USA Wrestling membership before - The wrestler's first name, last name, gender, date of birth, and home address - One parent of the wrestler's first name, last name, and email address
For wrestlers who have had a USA Wrestling membership before - Nothing, but their already-made profile does have to already be showing up on your roster Note: If you need help with this, call or text Dan at 440-477-2497
The Steps:
Step 1 = Go to usawmembership.com and log in
Step 2 = Click Manage (it's on the menu at the top) and then click Clubs (from the list that drops down)
Step 3 = Click on your club
Step 4 = Click on Uploads (it's on the menu on the left)
Step 5 = Click on Download Club File
Step 6 = Open that file you just downloaded (it's a Microsoft Excel file)
Step 7 = Make sure of the following: The first cell in Column U should be remove (not bg_check). If it isn't, change it. The first cell in Column V should be a blank cell (not safe_sport) If it isn't, change it.
Step 8 = Delete any rows that have information of any coaches or any wrestlers who will not be on your youth team this year
Step 9 = Each row is one wrestler
Here is what you type in each cell of the row... usaw_id = Leave this blank unless wrestler had a USA Wrestling membership in the past membership_type = Limited Folkstyle Athlete Membership
Note: If wrestler had a USA Wrestling membership in the past, the above two are the only cells that should have any content in them for that wrestler. Delete the rest.
email = Leave this blank
first_name = First name of the wrestler
last_name = Last name of the wrestler
dob = Date of birth of the wrestler (Must be in 01/01/2001 format)
phone = Leave this blank (unless you want a parent to receive phone communication from USA Wrestling)
gender = M or F
address_1 = First line in the wrestler's home address (example: 1111 Main St)
address_2 = Second line in the wrestler's home address (Leave this blank if there is none)
city = City in the wrestler's home address
state = OH
zip = Zip code (five digits) in the wrestler's home address
parent_first_name = First name of a parent of the wrestler
parent_last_name = Last name of a parent of the wrestler
parent_email = Email address of a parent of the wrestler

10. Step 10 = Click Choose File
Step 11 = Choose that file you just saved
Step 12 = Click Upload File
Step 13 = Click on Cart (it's on the menu at the top on the right)
Step 14 = Click the checkbox next to "I acknowledge that this purchase is final according to the USA Wrestling refund policy."
Step 15 = Click Pay by Credit Card
Step 16 = Enter your club's payment card information
Step 17 = Enter your club's payment card's zip code
Step 18 = Click Pay (Amount)
Step 19 = Click Manage (it's on the menu at the top) and then click Clubs (from the list that drops down)
Step 20 = Click on your club
Step 21 = Click Wrestlers (it's on the menu on the left)
All done! You now see your entire roster that you just imported and paid for
